Skrillex is currently getting ready to hit the road for his latest tour, though he claims he won’t be making any money from it.
The ‘Full Flex Express’ tour will hit six cities in Canada later this month and will feature the prince of dubstep playing alongside an all-star cast that includes Diplo, Grimes and Pretty Lights.
But in a recent interview, Skrillex said: “I’m making no money on this tour. I’m losing money to do it. I’m doing it because it’s just a fun thing to do.”
He also explained that the tour was part inspired by Festival Express, a documentary about the tour across Canada that Janis Joplin and The Grateful Dead, among others, embarked on in 1970. In a maverick move perhaps motivated by the freewheelin’ spirit of Joplin and the crew, Skrillex insists he’s put together the ‘Full Flex Express’ for the fun and not the sweet, sweet dollar.
“It’s not about money. You’ve got to look at the bigger picture… It’s about doing something fun and creating something that’s cool and giving people something to look forward to and making people happy. I can make money in other ways. I can fly around with a backpack and make so much money,” he said.
