With tight-knit crews like San Francisco’s Dirtybird, it’s easy to forget that the label’s bench is much deeper than Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin, Worthy, and the other stars who headline the label’s incredibly popular parties around the world. The Dirtybird Summer EP goes a long way in remedying this notoriety imbalance by presenting four young artists whose tracks are the ones rocking the parties as the DB crew circles the globe.
”3 Degrees” marks the second Dirtybird outing for South African duo Munnibrotherz, who offer up a dirty half-tempo jam that’s just dying to be played right at the moment when the summer heat threatens to take over the dancefloor and people need relief.
Next up is Italian producer Nick Olivetti, whose ”Jump Up” is a rolling groover that wouldn’t sound odd in a set by Richie Hawtin or one of his Minus cohorts, but offers just enough in the way of quirky sound design to make sense considering Dirtybird’s more playful tendencies.
Speaking of playfulness, Genghis Clan‘s contribution, ”Aaaaah Sheeet!,” delivers with a barking vocal that yelps and scats against bottomless builds before the title refrain comes crashing down.
